The Ialoveni district, Republic of Moldova, formed in March 25. 1977. The district includes 33 villages and a city, Ialoveni. The population of the district – 92.000 people.
It is situated in the central part of republic. It’s area 650 km2.
The socio-cultural context is represented by 20 schools, 9 high schools, 38 kinder gardens, 22 cultural clubs, 29 public libraries, and museums.
The main part in the economical framework of the district is agriculture. About 60% of population are engaged in agriculture. The annual production of grapes is about 40.000 tones, fruits – 10.000 tones, meat – 1,5 thousand tones. The value of global volume of agricultural production equals about 48 million lei (about 3 million Euro).
The industry of the district is based on the agricultural production prime-material, especially grapes. We produce wines, cognac, national alcoholic drinks. About 20 industrial companies are working here.
But one of the unsolved problems remains the export of the production, finding its consumer market. |

In the last years volumes of agricultural and industrial production have a tendencies of decreasing. About 10 thousand people are gone outside the republic, searching for better paid jobs, because the salaries that they receive here don’t allow them the satisfaction of the most elementary needs. The district has a relative high level of unemployment. At the work force office of the district are registrated about 1300 unemployed people, mainly women and young people. But the reality is different. The number of unemployed is much more higher, the sociology specialists are counting about 7000. A radical restructuring of the industry is needed for the solving of several social problems, especially the orientation towards the production of food and conned products, which can be exported in different countries.
A special attention and care needs to be provided for “weak” families poor, with a lot of children, or without permanent jobs. The number of such families is about 10 thousand.
A great problem remains the provision with water and gas of the population. In the majority of villages the sources of water need special care or repair, and some investments are required.
In the education system the problems are: the lack of books and special literature, a lot of buildings need capital repairs.
In an unfavorable situation is the category of old people (about 16 thousand). The few money they receive from the government can’t allow them a decent living.
The entrepreneurship, a source of development of the economy, hasn’t yet reached high levels. That’s because a lot of businessmen don’t have the required knowledge in the business, in the organization matters and the production process or services.
The mentioned problems could be solved with the help of projects promoted by European organizations, including those from Italy.
